How I made sure to not have anything toxic or bad for me on any of my social media.
We all know on social media that we can see unrealistic standards on beauty and bodies. At one point my whole social media feed was just filled with models and singers who had super skinny bodies and what looked like flawless faces.
When I was 15 I would obsess over what to wear and how to do makeup like these beauty influencers. I would spend all my money on clothes that I would see them wear and beauty products I would see them use. So when I got home, I tried the makeup and outfits on, and didn't in the slightest look like them. I would be so upset and never want to come out of my room. I would wait 2 maybe 3 weeks and then I would go out and do the same exact thing. This lasted around 6-8 months before I realized that no matter how much money I spent and how much I wanted to look like them, the reality was I was never going to.
So after a while I realized maybe it's a good thing that I don't look like them. I should be happy in myself and what I look like and what I want to wear. Because half the time I didn't even like the clothes I was buying anyway. I found a style that I felt happy in and that complimented me and how I looked. I found myself being a lot more happy with myself.
So how did I detox my feed?
Even though I did not want to dress like these celebrities I still found myself massively comparing myself to them. So, I decided that every time I would see someone on my feed I felt like to be beautiful I had to look like them I just simply unfollowed. Though I know it is not these models' fault that they look like this. I just don't like seeing all over the media, news etc that they praise these people for being "skinny " yet put down anyone else who seems to be somewhat bigger.
A perfect example is Peirs Brosnan's wife Keely Shaye Smith. Former model was praised for her tiny body and beautiful face. She has since put on weight. Whenever the pair are seen in public together the tabloids have no problem saying that she has put on weight and that Peirs could do better. This just shows the media is all about looks.
