Its no secret that social media has both positives and negatives, however today I am going to be talking about the Negatives. I don't really think many people try to face the issues on social media because it plays such a big part in our lives, we can see anything wrong with it.
However, Unfortunately there is some issues on Social Media and without facing them, we are never going to overcome them and make Social Media a safe place. Over recent years, Social Media has taken the world by storm, everyday Social Media is changing. The first social media site was created in 1997 and was called Six Degrees. It allowed users to create a profile page and make friends with other users from all around the world. Ever since then it has grown massively and we have seen many new Social Media sites come and go.
Social media is used as a weapon for bullying, there's been so many times that I have been scrolling through TikTok and I have seen a hurtful comment. This is one of the major issues within Social Media because you appear anonymous, however be warned you can always be found through Social Media, if you leave a hurtful comment or bully someone online it is traceable.
Social media is also used to fuel our Egos, whether we mean to or not. We are all guilty of uploading a picture to Instagram or Facebook and if it doesn't get enough likes, we remove it. But why? Why do we need to get worried about likes or follows? Its not a big deal and usually, the reason a post isn't performing well isn't because of the photo but the algorithm of the platform you are using, so next time you upload a picture and it doesn't get a 'good' amount of likes, don't delete it - leave it up despite the number of likes.
Another negative to Social media is the fake 'Beauty standards', This one really annoys me. Many celebrities and influencers upload 'Perfect' pictures which are actually edited and altered to fit in with the 'beauty standards' but why? Why change the way a photo looks? We are all beautiful and there's no reason to edit pictures to look different. This causes major issues, especially with Young people because they think just because they don't look like their favourite celeb, they should change. This isn't the case at all and this has been proven to affect peoples mental health and way they view themselves.

Don't get me wrong, Social media is an Amazing platform, it helps so many people and has so many positives, however I do think some things need to change and there needs to be stricter rules, guidelines and laws around the issues, before it goes too far. Do you agree?
